Last updated 29 September 2026. What changed: VEQRO is now run by VEQRO (Pty) Ltd. We removed the banner that asked to recognise your device: usage statistics are now always anonymous and without cookies, and screens are never recorded.

The short version: no account, no sign-up, no phone number, no ads, no cookies, nothing that follows you around the internet. Photos are checked, not kept. Your saved cars stay on your device.

Who we are

VEQRO is an independent car-price check for South Africa, run by VEQRO (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2026/772832/07). VEQRO (Pty) Ltd is responsible for your information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA); its information officer is Sean Johnson, director. What happens when you use VEQRO

• Photos you scan. On your phone the photo is made smaller and its location data is removed. It is then sent to our server, where a third-party generative AI model identifies the car and finds number plates. VEQRO does not keep the photo after your result is returned.
• Typed lookups and listing links. We use the car details you choose. If you paste a link to a listing on a supported site, our server reads that page to find the price, year and mileage. We don’t keep the link.
• Market prices. To value a car we search current South African listings for that make, model and year (using a third-party AI search service). These searches contain car details only, never anything about you.
• Share cards. Made on your device, with number plates pixelated. A small copy of the photo is sent to find the plates and is not kept.

What we keep

• An anonymous scan log: which car was identified (make, model, years, version), how sure VEQRO was, whether our car list had it, and when. No photo, no number plate, no location, no internet address and nothing that identifies you. We use it to improve VEQRO’s list of cars.
• A daily usage counter: to keep VEQRO free and fair, new scans are limited per day. They are counted against a scrambled code made from your internet address; the code can’t be turned back into your address.
• Prices by car (no personal information), so repeat checks are quick.
• Anonymous usage statistics (website): which pages are opened and which buttons are tapped, whether a scan worked, which car it found and roughly what it’s worth, and how quickly pages load. We use PostHog, with servers in the EU. This works without cookies and without storing anything on your device: visitors are counted each day with a scrambled code that can’t identify you, and there’s no name, email or phone number. Your internet address isn’t stored. We never send photos, number plates, listing text or links, or the prices you type, and we don’t record your screen.
• Page views and page speed (website): Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights count which pages are opened, the site you came from, your country, device type and browser, and how fast pages load for real visitors. No cookies and nothing stored on your device; visitors are counted with a scrambled code that is discarded daily. Only the page’s address is sent, never search terms, listing links or anything you type.
• In the VEQRO app, simple usage events such as “scan started”, with no personal details, go to our server logs only.

Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps short-lived technical logs, which include internet addresses, for security and reliability.

Your saved cars

Saved cars, their photos and values are stored only on your device, in your browser or in the VEQRO app. They are not uploaded or backed up. Deleting the app or clearing the website’s data removes them.

App permissions

• Camera: to photograph a car.
• Photos: to choose a photo or a screenshot of a listing, and to save a share card when you choose to.

You can say no. You can still type a car in or check a listing link.

Sharing

We don’t sell your information or use it for advertising. Service providers (Vercel for hosting, third-party generative AI providers, Supabase for our database, PostHog and Vercel for anonymous website statistics) process data only to run VEQRO.

Your rights

Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. VEQRO doesn’t keep personal information linked to you, so there is usually nothing to find, but write to privacy@veqro.co.za and we’ll check. You can also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Children

VEQRO isn’t aimed at children under 13.
